Abstract

A hypercompetitive environment presents a challenging context for strategy formulation. An article presents a case study of Pepsi Canada's strategic success in a hypercompetitive environment. Using qualitative methods of analysis the study develops an event history of the industry and the firm, and causal maps of internal strategic and annual planning documents. From the case study is derived a set of propositions that identify criteria for success in such an environment.
