The Graduate Historic Preservation Program at EMU was established in the 1979-80 academic year. The student organization known as Preservation Eastern was founded shortly thereafter. This organization published the first program newsletter in the winter term of 1983, known as the Preservation Eastern newsletter. With a few exceptions the newsletter has been published every year since that time; in fall 2006 the name was changed to the Post & Lintel in recognition of the program's focus on historic architecture, a name it retains. The newsletter has remained an important function of the Preservation Eastern organization.
