Android mobile app development as a motivation towards computer programming

Hadeel Mohammed Jawad, Eastern Michigan University

Abstract

This paper demonstrates the results of an experimental study that was conducted to explore the effect of Android mobile development on students' interest in programming and on their interest in pursuing computing degrees. It also tries to explore if there is any relationship between mobile app sharing on Google Play and students' interest in mobile development. The posttest survey data were collected from college students at the end of an Android course. This paper also introduces a new assessment tool that was developed using two theoretical frameworks. The results suggest that Android development could increase students' interest in programming.
