Abstract
In order to address high DFWI rates (grades of D and F, withdrawals, and incompletes) and to improve student retention, CHEM 121: General Chemistry I at Eastern Michigan University became part of the Gardner Institute's Gateways to Completion initiative. In this chapter, we will describe both course-level and instructor-level perspectives on this process as well as the data collection and analysis our course committee has undertaken in order to thoughtfully select and implement small-, medium-, and large-scale interventions for the promotion and enhancement of the success of all of our General Chemistry I students.
