Abstract
Henry Murray was an American psychologist who changed the landscape of academic and personality psychology. Originally trained in biochemistry and medicine, Murray eventually transitioned to psychology where he developed his theory of personality known as personology. Murray combined his medical and biochemical training to form an interdisciplinary approach to psychology that challenged the traditional schools of psychological thought. Influenced by Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung, Murray adopted psychoanalysis as the only approach that could fully explain the complexity of human behavior. Throughout his lifetime, Murray continued to refine his theory of personality and make many noteworthy contributions to the field of psychology.
