Abstract

Supplemental employment is common for many, including academic library personnel. Through an online survey of staff and librarians at academic institutions within the United States, this study explores the types of additional employment engaged in, the motivations behind the work, and the influence that job position, salary, and time in position have on these factors. The findings offer insights into the ways that library employees adapt to financial realities through participation in side hustles. Side hustles function not only as sources of income but also as outlets for skill-building, self-expression, and continuity across different aspects of working life.
