Abstract
Vers le Sud (Heading South) and On the Verge of Fever, two feature films based on the literary works of Haitian writer, Dany Laferriere, feature moments when the actors directly address the audience, either visually and/or orally to tell their stories. These moments of direct address diverge from traditional fictional films that, as Laura Mulvey suggests, portray a hermetically sealed world which unwinds magically, indifferent to the presence of the audience, producing for them a sense of separation and playing on their voyeuristic fantasy.
