Abstract

This project consists of a Disaster Preparedness and Response Plan created for the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, located at Whitefish Point, 11 miles north of Paradise, MI, prefaced with a methodological report of its drafting and creation and recommendations for its implementation. Disaster Preparedness and Response Plans are a core document for museums and cultural institutions. As is best practice according to guidelines from the American Alliance of Museums and International Council on Museums, this plan is tailored for the specific needs, location, collection, and personnel of the museum. It contains procedures, policies, and institutional information in a ready-to-use format that can be directly referred to in the event of an emergency. Ultimately, this plan will be adopted for us by the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum.

Comments

This document differs from the version that will be adopted by the Shipwreck Museum in two chief ways. First, sensitive information including phone numbers of museum staff and insurance policy information has been redacted in this copy. Second, only the plan itself and recommendations for implementing it will be sent to the museum in unredacted form as the preface, bibliography, and other academic formatting are unnecessary for institutional use.
