Abstract
A website was designed and constructed to provide comprehensive information about macroalgae ("seaweed") that lived between 700- and 400-million years ago. Through careful review of existing websites dedicated to prehistoric life, this website - the first dedicated to fossil macroalgae - was carefully designed to be useful to the general public and to professional paleontologists alike. The website consists of a homepage that provides background information on living and fossil macroalgae, a page that provides information about preservation and classification, and four "gallery pages," each of which illustrates, respectively, the main macroalgal species of the Ediacaran, Cambrian, Ordovician, and Silurian periods of Earth history. Each illustration on the gallery page is linked to a separate page that provides detailed information about that species. In total, the website provides information for 106 species of fossil macroalgae.
