John Nick Pappas was an Emeritus Professor of art at Eastern Michigan University who taught classes for forty years before his retirement in 2000. John was a renowned sculptor worldwide and his works are housed the globe, from Detroit to Rome. EMU graduates Kat Hacanyan, Akaiia Ridley, and Cassandra Mitchell joined John and his daughter Catherine in his Ypsilanti studio to learn about his upbringing, creative process, and all the people who made him who he was. This interview was conducted in February 2023 and John passed a few months later, in July 2023. Transcript and audio have been reviewed by Catherine Pappas and published with her permission.
