Tenure track faculty lines in academia follow a process of multiple layers of evaluation. Faculty submit applications for tenure and promotion that detail at length their achievements in scholarship, service and teaching. These detailed accounts include supporting documents as proof of the stated achievements. Once submitted, an evaluation committee in the home department reviews and makes recommendations to the department head, who in turn makes recommendations to the college dean. At Eastern Michigan University the Provost reviews these applications for tenure and promotion and ultimately moves them forward to the Board of Regents for approval. Materials related to Dr. Brown-Chappell's application for tenure and her supporting documents are available, researchers are asked to contact the University Archives directly.
