Abstract

This paper aims to study the use of emerging technologies in online classes in undergraduate engineering and computer technology programs. The study especially aims to examine the specific technologies, software, apps, tools, and equipment that can be used to deliver lab-based classes in fully online mode in undergraduate Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering Technology, Cyber Security, and Information Technology programs. Based on extensive review of the existing literature, the available digital technologies such as e-learning platforms, application software, tools, and equipment were identified, synthesized, and presented. Currently available diversified online learning and communication platforms that can be adopted integrating different popular and widely used software, apps, and tools for effective online learning were discussed in this study. Various features, functions, and activities performed by students and instructors during fully online synchronous and asynchronous classes were identified, examined, and analyzed. This study would be beneficial for instructors, administrators, and e-learning facilitators in higher academic institutions while adopting e- learning platforms to deliver online classes in undergraduate engineering and computer technology programs.
