Abstract
A vocal performance student’s junior and senior recitals are crucial to the completion of their Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance degree. This thesis paper describes how I, a vocal performance student, enhance and connect my voice recitals through my artistry and faith in God in order to tell a narrative that is personal to myself. This creative project brings together the fine arts of music, paint, poetry, and literary analysis to enrich the audience’s overall experience of the performances. This senior project is accomplished through the intensive planning, preparation, and execution of thematically creating a cohesive narrative that reflects my identity: how God created me to employ my artistry to inspire others and share His love. Through my passion for music and love of God, these recitals encompass and reflect the narrative from the books of Genesis to Revelation in the Bible: life after the fall of the Garden of Eden to life after the restoration of the Garden of Eden. This project is completed through the research of composers, musical works, and Biblical theology as well as discussion of the rehearsal techniques and performance practice of the repertoire selected. Acting as a comprehensive guide, this thesis contains commentary on the detailed process of the creative thinking, logistical organizing, and extensive research necessary in executing a multi-media recital that depicts the artistic journey from Eden to Eternity.
